Services

Individual therapy

Fifty-minute sessions for adults, weekly or every other week. In person at my Sugar House office or by secure video.

Telehealth across Utah

Video sessions through a HIPAA-compliant platform. You must be physically located in Utah at the time of each session, because that's where I'm licensed.

Free 15-minute consultation

A short phone or video call to talk about what's going on and whether we're a good fit. No charge, no obligation.

Payment is due at the time of each session by card on file. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

Sliding scale

I hold a small number of reduced-fee spots for clients who couldn't otherwise afford therapy. These are based on an honest conversation about your finances, not paperwork. If you need one, please ask during your consultation. When all spots are full, I keep a short waiting list.

Insurance

I'm not in-network with any insurance plans. Many clients use their out-of-network benefits instead. Each month I'll give you a superbill, an itemized receipt with the codes insurers need, which you submit to your plan for possible partial reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your plan, and some plans don't cover out-of-network care at all.

Before we start, it's worth calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
  • What percentage do you reimburse for CPT codes 90791 (initial session) and 90837 (ongoing session)?
  • Do I need pre-authorization, and is there a session limit?

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers must give clients who don't have insurance, or who aren't using insurance, an estimate of the expected cost of services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the total expected cost of therapy, including related costs, before you schedule or at any time you ask for one.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Keep a copy of your estimate. For questions or more information, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

Cancellations

Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, so that the time can be offered to someone else. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed, are charged the full session fee, except in the case of illness or genuine emergency. Superbills can't be issued for missed sessions.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is sixty minutes. We'll go over the paperwork you completed beforehand, talk about what's bringing you in, what you'd like to be different and what has or hasn't helped before. You don't need to prepare anything. By the end we'll have a rough sense of what we're working on together, and you'll have a chance to ask me anything.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on what you're working on. Some people come for a few months around a specific transition; others stay longer to work on patterns that run deeper. We'll check in regularly about progress, and you can stop whenever you choose.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy stays between us, and I won't confirm to anyone that you're a client without your written permission. There are a few legal exceptions, which we'll go over in your first session: if I believe you're at serious risk of harming yourself or someone else, if I learn of suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or if a court orders your records. These situations are rare, and I'll always talk with you first whenever I can.

What is your cancellation policy?

Twenty-four hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed sessions are charged the full fee, with exceptions for illness and emergencies.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, by secure video, for clients located anywhere in Utah. You'll need a private space and a reliable connection. I can't see clients who are physically outside Utah at the time of the session, even temporarily, because of licensing rules.

Can you prescribe medication?

No. As a clinical social worker I don't prescribe. If medication might help, I'm glad to coordinate with your doctor or psychiatric prescriber, with your permission.

Ready to talk it through?

Book a free 15-minute consultation. No pressure and no commitment. We'll talk about what's going on and whether I'm the right fit. If I'm not, I'll point you toward someone who might be.
